The dangers of hiring a “Cheap” Dj
Your event is obviously important to you and those around you. Your’ve been cautious in planning the event around dates and potential conflicts. You’ve got the flowers, the venue, the photographer and you’ve taken painstaking detail to make sure the event reflects all things important to you and your event. Now who do you hire for entertainment?
There are entertainment choices from acoustic musicians, orchestra, live bands, comedians, and much more. More often then not you will be choosing between one of MANY local mobile entertainment companies to provide Disc Jockey services. In reality it’s a very wise choice as most dj’s are able to play music from a very large area, don’t take breaks, and in many cases are very talented emcees as well.
If you do indeed want to choose a dj for your event, where do you start? At last look (according to Google) there are no fewer than 30 yes THIRTY dj’s here in the greater Sioux Falls area. How in the world do you narrow your decision? Everyone is AWESOME. Everyone has a HUGE music library. EVERYONE is going to tell you that they are you’re best bet. I realize in this day and age, and by the intended sarcastic tone, that things aren’t always as they seem.
What’s the answer? Do some homework! Talk to other event professionals about who they recommend and what service providers they respect. What about price? I know some dj’s in the local market that average a $1500 or more for their services and some for $500. What’s the difference? PLENTY! True professionals charge what professionals charge and they do so for good reason. Some dj’s are overpriced at the lower end of the spectrum. Professionals attend conferences, educational seminars, emcee workshops to hone their craft and deserve the rates they earn.
Think about this when you are looking for entertainment for your next event. What is it worth to have a great entertainer at your event? What is entertainment “Worth”? What’s it worth if they do a great job and do everything goes great? What’s it worth if they are late? What’s it worth if they dont show up at all? You’ve spent all this time, energy, and money to make this event COUNT! If your guests don’t stay around to enjoy the evening because of a lackluster entertainment choice, or one who’s MIA, it’s all for naught.
Cheap entertainment is seldom great. Great entertainment is seldom cheap.
Kevin and Laura’s Wedding Reception
On Saturday, February 18th, Pinnacle Productions had the opportunity to work with Laura and Kevin McGuire for their wedding reception. The reception was held at beautiful Stoney Creek Inn, in Sioux City Iowa. Laura picked out an elegant purple and it was brought to life in everything; from chair covers, uplight centerpieces, and the amazing lighting design set throughout the entire room.
The guests began to arrive at 5pm, and were greeted by host couple Rod and Loreta Tompkins; uncle and aunt of the bride. The bridal party arrived at 5:30pm, and right after the introductions, Mr. and Mrs. McGuire shared their first dance as husband and wife.
The bride and groom had pick out a wide variety of music that they enjoyed and the guest requested music all night long. The most memorable part of the night was when Kevin went to remove the garter and pulled out the largest pair of “granny panties” I have EVER seen…. The crowd laughed and Laura blushed
A big thanks to Holli and her staff at Stoney Creek for everything they did that night….
Also to Kevin, Laura, and Reed (Laura’s son); you guys were amazing to work with a TONS of fun…. Pinnacle Productions wishes you many many happy years together!
Sioux Falls Wedding Dj Pinnacle Productions Takes the Party West!
Sioux Falls Wedding Dj’s in Rapid City SD? Only for an awesome couple planning and epic celebration! We had the absolute honor to work with Mr and Mrs Justin and Kelly Hipple at the fabulous Rapid City Holiday Inn / Rushmore Plaza on Saturday September 24th. The room was full of energy and emotion from their small but fun 100 guest wedding.
The bride and groom requested our design team to take their beautiful pink / purple theme and add their personal flair to an already beautiful room! They also incorporated a custom designed monogram that everyone could see as they walked in the room!
All summer long we’ve been doing some awesome receptions for awesome people, but this night was full of unique touches that we were more than happy to coordinate. From the song our Matron of Honor sang for her sister and new brother, to the acoustic rendition of Akon’s – Beautiful Justin sang to his bride, this was simply one of the best weddings we’ve ever been a party of!
When the last songs were played, just before midnight the crowd decided they hadn’t had enough… To be honest we went until the hotel kicked us out of the room! 90 minutes of overtime and the crowd still wanted more! This reminded us all of why we are truly blessed to work with our clients and make them the life of their party!
Justin and Kelly, thank you so much for letting us into your lives for this amazing celebration! It was simply an honor to work with you both as you take this momentous journey into your Happily Ever After!
Sioux Falls Wedding Dj’s Pinnacle Productions Recaps the Norgaard Celebration in Dell Rapids
Aaron and Jennifer Norgaard and their closest friends and family were the center of an amazing night in Dell Rapids on September 17th, 2011 at the Beautiful Old 77 Ballroom! From the fun and high energy introductions to the 90 minute encore this dance was one for the ages! The room was adorned with charming birdhouses, elegant uplighting, and a custom monogram showcasing the bride and grooms special design.
Aaron recently returned from his deployment to the Middle East and many of his guard buddies were in attendance as well. The Red, White, and Blue lighting both under and behind the head table gave a very fun and patriotic feel as guests first arrived. The speeches were great as the best man, maid of honor, and a couple extra members of the bridal party announced their love for our beautiful couple.
The dance was one for the ages with a full dance floor for almost all the night! Country, rock, hip hop, and even polkas gave our guests a full opportunity to work their magic feet. From young to old we had em rocking right until they kicked us out!
We would like to thank Aaron and Jennifer for allowing us to work with you to plan this awesome celebration! We wish you the very best in your new adventures!

Surprise during the father daughter dance…
Wedding season has begun here in Sioux Falls and we couldn’t be more happy about that way it started. We have been working with Ross and Heidi planning their wedding reception for quite some time and had earlier mentioned an idea to drop a voiceover in her dance with her dad. Admittedly I thought the idea had lost traction since we hadn’t discussed it for months. BUT she really thought it would be an amazing surprise. Indeed..
The song was already picked out. She knew where she wanted to put it and even had a script. I read her script and was moved as well. She really had a fondness for her dad and was very very animate about not wanting it to sound scripted, and didn’t mention it to anyone but her fiance and myself. We scheduled a time to do the recording and a week later, here we are! The voiceover was great, she was calm collected and did a spectacular job.

Pink Fashionista…. Working together to give back!
About a month ago we received a call from Tawny at Stewarts School here in Sioux Falls about an exciting opportunity to collaborate for an amazing cause. After a 10 minute converstion about the event we agreed to assist in the audio production and lighting for the facility.
Pink Fashionista is a benefit to raise funds for Avera Cancer Institute’s breast health services and programs. The latest fashions for 2011 from six different local retailers were featured, along with the latest trends in hair and make-up. Guests were entertained with a great fashion show, wonderful food and spirits, all while helping a great cause!
We were please to work with fellow professionals Steve from Focused Motion (http://www.focusedmotion.com), Katie Overvaag from Bella Luce Foto (www.bellalucefoto.com, and our MC Patrick Griesgraber. Rosemary from http://www.professionalimagebyrosemary.com/ produced the Fashion Show with Fashions from Hip Chic, The Great Outdoors, Posh Boutique, Amavo, Chavilla Bay!
The attendees were treated to amazing food and drink courtesy of Chef Dominique’s Catering (http://www.chefdomscatering.com/) and Josh and the crew from Woody’s Pub in Sioux Falls (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=168417288352).
Our lighting designers utilized 40 up -lighting fixtures to wash the pillars, entrances, and under the runway with an awesome shade of pink that “glowed” with the white skirting. We also provided audio support, microphones, and some great dance music for the models as well as those in attendance.
The event was a great success and raised money for a great cause! It will be an annual event, and we are excited to work with everyone again next year! Thanks again to Stewarts for the instrumental role in making this happen! Pictures coming soon!
Boe Forum Event Lighting
Recently we were approached by the team at Augustana college to assist in a transformation of a multi purpose room for a group of VIP’s and the keynote speaker, Madeleine Albright. The challenge… To add drama and elegance to compliment the color scheme of violet, white, & complimentary colors.
We utilized 20 intelligent led up lights setup symmetrically around the room with a beautiful violet wash & 8 LED pinspots suspended from the ceiling illuminating beautiful floral centerpieces from our friends at the Flower Mill http://flower-mill.com/ Stacy and the staff did a phenomenal job and were awesome to work with.
The result? A once awkward room devoid of personality was transformed into an elegant site for a delicious meal fit for the first female Secretary of State (1997). It was one of the highlights of our fall.
